Abū Zakarīyā Yaḥyā b. ‘Abd al-Raḥmān b. ‘Abd al-Mun‘im al-Qaysī al-Wā‘iẓ

Posted on 29/08/201831/08/2018 By Linda Jones

Abū Zakarīyā al-Qaysī al-Wā‘iẓ (d. 608/1211) was a religious scholar and hortatory preacher from Damascus. After studying many years in Isfahan he devoted himself to homiletic exhortation and became and itinerant preacher, delivering sermons in the Levant before arriving in al-Andalus, where he preached hortatory sermons for a long time in Granada. His charismatic sermons provoked the repentance en masse of his audiences.
