Juan López de Salamanca

Posted on 22/08/201622/08/2016 By Oriol Catalán

(c. 1389 – 1479) Dominican friar, he studied, lived and taught most of his life at the convent of San Esteban in Salamanca. His works were probably written at the end of his life, between 1460 and 1470.
he was also confessor of Leonor de Pimentel, second wife of Juan de Zúñiga, to whom he dedicated several of his works, and promoter of the convent of San Vicente Ferrer (or Saint Dominic) in Plasencia.
Beyond his importance as preacher, he suported Juan de Zúñiga and the nobility front against Enrique IV of Castilla.

Today is Candlemas, a festival of light in the lengthening days of early spring. An Anglo-Saxon sermon for this ancient and beautiful feast, when 'þæt soðe Leoht, Crist, wæs geboren to þam temple' ('the true Light, Christ, was borne to the temple'): https://aclerkofoxford.blogspot.com/2012/01/lfric-on-candlemas-twofold-burgeoning.html
